Spanish

When I moved to Michigan I was 7 years old. I remember going to school as soon as we got there and I couldn't understand why the kids didn't understand me. They made fun of me and I felt helpless. I was by myself since my siblings were 4 and 1 years old so I was put in a bilingual program
And picked it up fast. My mom was very strict about our speaking English. We spoke Spanish at home and English in school. She taught us all to read and write Spanish. When I got married I spoke only English since my husband only speaks English and At work everything was English. So I started to forget my Spanish :-( I found myself struggling to speak with my family. So when I moved to puerto Rico I struggled and I'm still continuing to struggle. I have to learn a lot of things again and the new slangs they use. They ask me all the time where I'm from and call me the american . But I'm getting better. I'm able to talk with a flow and with out stopping or getting stuck. But I am proud of being bilingual and if I could I would learn another language.
